As beautiful as a rose
She enticed him
Batting her eyelashes
Licking her lips
And throwing kisses in the wind
Head thrown back
laughing
Eyes catching the sun
shining
watching as he ran to catch each one
trying to hold it in his hands
as long as he could
before it melted to the ground like honey.
Enamored by her beauty
he was blinded
thinking their love could bloom
but flowers can’t grow
when they have no roots
He refused to believe
that it was not love,
so holding on to false hope,
he held onto her.
He felt the thorns of her beauty
press up against his skin
and held her even tighter,
the thorns piercing his skin
until he bled.
He slowly let go,
deciding to wait
on a rose that wouldn’t grow.
Not for him.

The night sky
sprinkled with stars
covered the houses with darkness
as the shadow of a man
stood on his porch,
watching.
Silent and still,
he waited for a sign
that things were okay,
that she was ready.
Waiting patiently on her
as he had been for 5 years
he knowingly felt in his mind
that she would come.
She would come
because she loved him
had always loved him
would always love him.
So for this,
for her,
he waited,
he watched,
watched over her,
watched over nothing.
She would not come.

Hand lightly placed in yours,
our fingers woven together, as
unspoken words float in the soft breeze
whispering love into our ears.
Our hearts beat in unison
in this God-given moment
pleading for infinity
but lasting only a few precious minutes.
Giving my heart, now sharing my soul,
asking only in return that you
embrace me with your silence
kiss me with your eyes
and quietly love me
til the day that I die.
